A Harbinger in the heart of North Carolina

Lovely, isn't it? We are thrilled to showcase this stunning Harbinger, built by one of our satisfied customers.

Where do we begin? That gorgeous lavender bathroom with the classic black & white tile? The perfect back porch? The bright and sunny loft area? If I had to guess, I'd say your eyes where probably drawn to the killer orange kitchen. Love it!

Here's what the customer had to say about her Tumbleweed:

"Now that I’ve lived in the home for a few months, I can’t imagine needing anything bigger.  My neighbors, who have much larger homes, probably talk it up more than I do, and I never want for visitors who enjoy relaxing in my cozy living room or out on the deck.   There are plenty of small spaces to be had in my town, but few are single-family, energy-efficient homes.  I’m glad to have built a Tumbleweed from the ground up and to be able to live in a way that supports my values, particularly in a time when that can be so hard to do."

Feast your eyes on all this small house goodness! The Harbinger is 404 square feet downstairs with a loft above. It is one of our nine cottages ranging from 261 square feet to 843 square feet. These cottages are designed to be built on a foundation and meet the International Building Code requirements. See all nine here.

Is there a Fencl in your future?

One of the joys for me of working at Tumbleweed is getting to see a finished
house. It's one thing to look at those expertly designed plans on paper,
it's another thing to see those plans translated into an actual
dwelling. I had that opportunity late in the summer: I got to walk my
way through a finished Fencl. Let me tell you, I just love that house!  I
love seeing the craftsmanship, feeling the attention to details and
knowing that someone was about to take ownership of a work of art. Well,
guess what? We've got another Fencl ready for a new owner!

This
customized Fencl is just stunning. It's rare that we have a finished
home available and we wanted you, our loyal fans, to have an opportunity
to purchase this masterpiece. There's no need to wait 3-5 moths for it.
We can ship it this week. Here are the details:

  • The house features a standing seam roof, which is an upgrade over
the standard corrugated aluminum sheet roof. Standing seam roofs have
    incredibly long lives.
  • All the windows are insulated, double pane windows with tempered glass. They are also well-finished.
  • In the Great Room we added a removable and adjustable desk that can be lowered as a seat, or completely removed.
  • The bathroom has a shower and a low flush RV toilet
  • The loft has an opening window and a skylight. From the reverse angle you can see the shelving in the loft.
  • Not only are there shelves in the great room,  but the closet also
has shelving. Our builder Bill, made them adjustable, so you can remove
    or resize as needed.
  • The kitchen includes a fridge/freezer, 2 burner propane stove top,
kitchen sink, air conditioner, custom drawers, cabinets and more
    shelving.
  • The mini fireplace has a dual exhaust so that it brings air from outside, and doesn't burn up oxygen in the house.
  • We added an air conditioner to the back of the house.

Upgrades include:

  • Air conditioner
  • Standing seam roof
  • Adjustable shelving
  • Custom kitchen cabinetry
  • Extra electrical capacity

The price is $53,997 and the upgrades are being added on for free.

The Road Ahead

Partnership Opportunities with Tumbleweed

Just
two years ago Tumbleweed was still a tiny company. Many people I meet today still
think of Tumbleweed as that little company with just 1 employee, and are
surprised to learn we now have a staff of roughly a dozen people working
in Sebastopol, Seattle, Hawaii, New York, Kansas City, Romania and
Indonesia.

I believe good things will continue to happen for both us and the
Tiny House Movement. Interest continues to grow, and we’ve really
cemented Tumbleweed as the leader in the movement.

Currently I’m working on a couple new projects that I’m very excited
about. One is creating a licensing package which allows our fans to
create their own business building Tumbleweed Houses for sale. The other
is working with private lenders to arrange financing for the inventory
of houses at rates not available at your bank. So please read on to
learn more.

Become a Tumbleweed Builder

This idea is perfect for passionate builders who want to build
amazing small homes but don’t have customers yet. Our plan is to work
with builders around the country who will build Tumbleweed Houses and
then sell them through our website. We love it because it allows you to
do what you do best – build a great home. You know from the start that
you are building a beautiful product with a demand that actually exists.
And, you have the confidence that we’ll work together to find a buyer
using our database of over 100,000 fans. We earn our royalty only after
the house is sold … so you know that we are in it with you.

Green Loans

Occupy Wall Street has made us think about who we are borrowing money
from. Banks are paying you 1% on your savings, and lending it to
Tumbleweed at 10%. That isn’t fair … especially since our bank received
$25 billion in bail out money.

We need to change that. We want to work with conscientious lenders –
whether you are a private money broker, or someone looking for an
interesting opportunity, we’re interested in talking to you. And we are
more than happy to pay you the same rate we’re paying our bank.

In addition to replacing our current loans, we’re also exploring the
idea of increasing our house inventory from 4 houses to 8-10 houses. It
makes much more sense to be selling houses “off the lot” rather than ask
our customers to wait 4-5 months before we finish a house for them.

If you’re interested in discussing this more, please tell us your name and email address and I’ll get back to you.

Sincerely,

Steve Weissmann

President

Keeping Up With Kendall

It is with great pleasure that we re-introduce to you one of our favoriteTumbleweed builders. Her name is Kendall and what she is trying to accomplish with her Lusby build is a great inspiration to all of us at Tumbleweed HQ.

In an attempt to do something about the rampant homelessness she observes daily, Kendall started her own company NerdGirlHomes. She set the goal for herself to build a Tumbleweed to donate to a family in need or have a raffle of the house and give the proceeds to a related cause. As you can see from these pictures, she is well on her way. Kendall embodies the type of industrious spirit and open-minded determination that is the hallmark of a Tumbleweed builder. Her example is worthy of imitation and your support. She is accepting donations of time and funds to assist her build. Please visit her site here:www.nerdgirlhomes.wordpress.com.
