I love checking in on our industrious posse of Tumbleweed builders. These are the kind of customers dreams are made of! Take Ella, for example. If you are not following her blog, you are missing out on an incredible journey.
the things I love about her blog is that she lets you in on every little
detail. Honestly, this is the kind of information that can help any of
you who want to build your own Tumbleweed get started. Ella represents
most of our accomplished builders: no prior construction experience,
self-motivated and gettin' it done! Oh, and did I mention that she is
yet another builder who started her build right after attending one of
our super-rockin' workshops?
People ask me all the time, "Should I go to a workshop before I attempt
to build?" All I will say is this: check out Ella's build and get to
the nearest workshop and see for yourself!
Last night during our #TinyHouseChat on Twitter, we had a lively discussion about composting toilets. There is still a lot of mystery and a little fear about the whole concept. I think some still equate composting toilets with the old outhouses of years gone by. Well, nothing can be farther from the current reality of composting. When done properly, it can be a viable solution for those who want to live off the grid and have the freedom that a tiny house affords. One good read on the subject is the Humanure Handbook.
We recommend the book and it is considered the ultimate authority on the subject. There are some modern versions of the composting toilet that are worthy of exploration.
Check out this one by Envirolet:
This is an engineering marvel. It comes in 2 electric and 1 non-electric models and is easy to install. One thing I really like about this company is that they provide a gallery so you can see the toilets that their customers installed. You can see it here. Check out the images and the details about this option and let me know what you think in the comments.
Here is another home built by one of our past workshop attendees.
Candice put so much time and energy into her build and it shows:
Our 2-day workshop can help you to turn your tiny house dreams into reality. Check out our locations here.
