Host a Tumbleweed Vacation Rental

March 27, 2010 · Print This Article

We are looking for a place to host the Fencl as a vacation rental.

This might be for the summer only, or could turn into a long term opportunity. You must have a place in the continental U.S. that would be a desirable vacation spot. In addition, electricity must be readily available. The house needs its own 20 amp circuit. Also, a sewer hookup must be present, and a water source within a few feet. Basically, the house needs RV hookups. Because it is a vacation rental, we don’t want to deal with cleaning of any tanks. We are looking for a place with a sewer hookup.

Tumbleweed’s responsibilities will be:
Tumbleweed will use its website, newsletters, and other websites to promote the vacation rental. Tumbleweed will rent the place, and collect payment in advance and pay any necessary hotel tax.

Your responsibilities will be:
You will give keys to people renting the place. Since it is a vacation rental it only needs to be cleaned between guests and not daily you can choose to clean the house yourself and collect the cleaning fee. Otherwise, we will work together to hire a local cleaning service. Laundry will need to be cleaned and rotated. You will also be responsible to refill the propane tanks used to heat the house. At least once every two months you will host an open house for 2 hours allowing visitors to come see the house. Before each open house, you will receive several free copies of the Small House Book. You can sell the books at the open house for a profit. It will provide a nice income for the few hours it takes.

Revenue:
As mentioned above, Tumbleweed will pay to promote the house. Tumbleweed will also pay the hotel taxes and credit card fees. From the money collected, we will subtract the cleaning costs, replacement costs for worn laundry, and taxes. The remainder of the money will be split at an agreed upon rate.

[...] For a long time now, I’ve been interested in the concept of tiny homes…and I think they are especially suited for part time places. The Tumbleweed Tiny Homes Company is one that I have been following with interest and now they are looking for a lot to showcase and rent one of their tiniest of homes. They explain it best on their website: Tumblewood Tiny Homes’ blog. [...]

I would think that the Casini Campground (on Moscow Rd. near Duncan’s Mills)

would be the perfect place for people to see the vacation rental in Sonoma County.

I asked on Kent’s site and he suggested I email, but am sure others are also wondering, so will ask here instead… What sort of plan do you have for insurance/liability insurance while this is on someone else’s land being used as a rental?

I would love to vacation in one! I love the idea of living in a tiny home, and this would be a wonderful chance to test-run a home and see what aspects, as far as the layout, we like or would change to suit our family when we build our own tiny home.

I appreciate the concern which is been rose. The things need to be sorted out because it is about the individual but it can be with everyone.

Found this area that may be a contact to your company to answer just one question. First I thoroughly enjoyed the seminar in Boston. I’ve been intending to attend for about 12 years.

I’m intending to build the New Popomo on a trailer. I’m unclear about what I saw written somewhere about a trailer with the flatbed clearly over the wheels without wheel wells. I’m unclear about which style I should be looking for.

Is there any email address I can use to ask questions?
Would love any help you can offer.
    Thank you
    Ms Lou Kifer

I am seriously interested in hosting the Fencl for vacationers. I own 7 log cabins on 20 acres of property. Lots of Trees, some deer, several fox, many many cardinals and well I could go on and on. I have plenty of open space where we can set the house up and everyone who drives by my place will be able to see it. I love the little Tumbleweed houses and have been so envious of them. I have always like miniature things, and well, this is pretty miniature. Anyway, you couldn’t find a better place for vacationing. We have three rivers here, some of the best fishing and Beaver Lake. You could stay here for a year and do something new each day! This is a little Switzerland. Would this be considered blogging?

I think your designs are fabulous. However, I would like to suggest using Sun Mar composting toilets; which have been aproved by DOT for use in marine and RV applications in the US.

They use little or no water, and when full the resulting product is dessicated and sterilized so it can be put into a flower garden as compost, or simply dig a hole and bury it.
