Customizing existing plans

What changes can I make to your plans?
Small changes to home plans are easy to make. We can make the ceiling taller, change a window size or add skylights very easily. We can also easily enlarge the size of the deck. Making changes like these does take time. Depending on how busy we are with other orders, custom changes usually take anywhere from 2-8 weeks. There is an additional charge, and the costs typically range from $150-$400 for customization work.
Changes that we don’t do for example: Change the layout and shape of the kitchen and put a bathtub in the downstairs bath.

Can I get custom plans?
Sorry, Jay no longer makes custom plans. We understand there are a great many reasons to want large changes, however, it is not what we do.

Substituting Materials

Can you design the houses to use only certain materials?
We do receive requests for plans using only certain materials, in particular to different chemical sensitivities. Unfortunately, we are not able to handle these requests. If you do want to build a Tumbleweed Home you can substitute the materials per your convenience. We do not have the specific knowledge needed to assist you with this.

Foundations

Can you make the house on a different foundation?
Our homes can be placed on many different types of foundations. However, foundation work usually requires an engineer in your area who is familiar with local codes. For example, a basement is certainly possible, and we suggest contacting a local engineer to assist you with this.
