Custom Plans
Customizing existing plans
What changes can I make to your plans?
If you require changes we suggest finding a local architect or engineer who will do the alterations for you. For that purpose you can request the CAD and DFX files. With those files, your architect (or engineer) doesn’t need to start from scratch; they can simply open the computer file and start making the adjustments you want.
Can Tumbleweed make the changes for me?
Unfortunately, we’ve been so busy lately that we simply don’t have the resources to make alterations to plans. Our schedule is booked solid until at least August 2011.
Tip If you choose to work with an architect or engineer, select someone who works with AutoCAD (or other similar software) and is willing to work with you on these plans. Some professionals will only take a job if they do it from start to finish. By carefully selecting someone to work with these plans, you can save
thousands of dollars.
How much will it cost?
Making changes or alterations is never cheap. Creating a set of plans from scratch usually runs from $5,000 – $10,000. Therefore, when you make alterations, you can expect it to cost from $1,000 – $4,000.
Can I get custom plans?
Sorry, Jay no longer makes custom plans. We understand there are a great many reasons to want large changes, however, it is not what we do.
Substituting Materials
Can you design the houses to use only certain materials?
We do receive requests for plans using only certain materials, in particular to different chemical sensitivities. Unfortunately, we are not able to handle these requests. If you do want to build a Tumbleweed Home you can substitute the materials per your convenience. We do not have the specific knowledge needed to assist you with this.
Foundations
Can you make the house on a different foundation?
Our homes can be placed on many different types of foundations. However, foundation work usually requires an engineer in your area who is familiar with local codes. For example, a basement is certainly possible, and we suggest contacting a local engineer to assist you with this.
