this comment is about Twila's mention of z-glass pics on the tumbleweed facebook page. I tried to find these pics while there but could not. Can anyone point me to where I may view these?

Looking at the kitchen details - the stove should not be next to a wall - needs 6 inch clearance on the left for many ranges (not a big deal until the inspector comes, or you scorch the paint! )

Other than that, with all the other comments and improvements people have suggested, should be great! Nice to see all the favorable press lately...

We just built this house with some modifications: since we live at elevation in the mountains of Montana we altered the walls to 2x8 construction to accommodate more spray-in insulation, and we raised the pitch on the roof dramatically for snow run off. We faced the house for full southern exposure. We also flipped the bathroom and kitchen because our view is outstanding on the south side and we wanted the rooms we spend the most time in to be on the view side of the house. We added 2 windows in the kitchen-again for the view. We also flipped the bedroom closet to the other end and put a big window where the closet originally was-again for the view:-). We installed a wrap around deck, a 96" x 96" slider off the front of the house, and a standard sliding door off the bedroom to access the deck on that side.
Total construction cost was 48k, but that included all energy star appliances, lighting, fixtures and a lot of extras: Rinnai on demand hot water heater, complete solar pv array, batteries,& inverter, a gravity fed fresh water system including the 1500 gallon cistern and all the excavating to run the lines from 200' up the hill behind the house. We did use a lot of recycled materials in the build, that allowed us to have some nicer finishes than we would normally have been able to afford.
