8 Off-Grid Appliances I Can’t Live Without!

1). Solavore Solar Oven

My Tiny House RV doesn’t have a regular oven, but even if it did, I would use my solar oven when I was off-grid. The Solavore Solar Oven uses zero electricity, and it even works during winter with the help of sun enhancing reflectors! All you need is sunshine and an appetite.

2). BioLite Camp Stove and lantern

Cooking outside is my preferred method when I’m off-grid. With my compact BioLite camp stove, which burns small pieces of wood, I can charge my cell phone with the energy it produces. That’s a handy tool when electricity is at a premium. I also love to use my BaseLantern as a camp light because it’s very bright, lasts a long time, and is compact.

3). Solar Generator & Panels

For off-grid electricity, I use a portable 1250 watt solar system from Goal Zero with four panels. This will power most of my Tiny House RV, as long as I have enough sunshine and I’m careful with my usage.

Call me fancy, but a regular cooler just isn’t enough for my lifestyle. I need a refrigerator and freezer. When I’m off-grid I switch my Dometic 2354 3-way refrigerator to run on propane. It still uses a little electricity to spark, but it’s very efficient.

5). Nature’s Head Composting Toilet

I love my composting toilet whether I’m on-grid or off-grid. I can’t imagine having a tow around and dump a black water tank. This is so much easier. More info here.

6). Off-grid water system

I have a 46-gallon water tank, 15-gallon greywater tank, and a water pump. More information about my off-grid plumbing system here.

7). Instant Propane Water Heater

I use the Precision Temp propane tankless water heater, and it works great off-grid. It only uses about 40 watts of electricity and then runs completely off of propane. It has freeze protection and it vents through the floor. For more reasons why I love my water heater, click here.

8). Wood Stove

I have the Kimberly wood stove, which is lightweight (for a wood stove) and extremely efficient. In cold weather off-grid living, this stove is a savior! You can even cook on top of it. For more info on how I heat my Tumbleweed, click here.
