Vacation Rental Bliss! Couple Orders 2nd Tumbleweed to Rent Out

Chance Newingham and his wife, Ginger, first became interested in the Tiny House movement in 2012. The following year they purchased a 20-foot Tumbleweed Linden (stay in the Linden), and they were hooked! Recently they ordered another Tiny House RV to be used as a vacation rental. This time the couple chose a different model and customized the design. Read on to learn more.

Designing a Tumbleweed Vacation Rental

Designing a tiny vacation rental is a challenge. You have to think about your own preferences, as well as the needs of your guests. Below are a few popular choices customers have made when designing a vacation rental.

Popular Tiny Vacation Home Amenities:

  • 2+ bedrooms
  • Downstairs sleeping option
  • RV flush toilet
  • Large refrigerator
  • Storage options
  • Large kitchen sink
  • Bathroom sink
  • Full-size shower
  • Staircase

After much deliberation, Chance and Ginger chose the Roanoke 26 Vista design for their second vacation rental. This contemporary Tumbleweed is large enough to sleep five people, yet tiny enough to be pulled behind a truck. Working closely with Tumbleweed team members, the couple customized the interior layout, appliances, and finishes. The final product features two sleeping lofts and the creature comforts of a regular home.

The kitchen is outfitted with modern cabinets, walnut countertops, a farm sink, induction cooktop, and a 7.4 cu. ft. refrigerator!

A comfortable staircase leads to the main loft and offers storage for small items.   The layout features enough space for a downstairs bedroom or murphy bed.

The smaller loft will fit a twin bed and is accessible by a rolling ladder, which tucks away when not in use. The loft works great for a child’s bedroom.

This is the style of Tiny House that I like best … the flat slanted roof. It gives headroom for someone “upstairs” and call still utilize the loft area. I’d want to be able to sit upright and read a book or watch TV or something. What I really do not like is the skimpy and dangerous looking staircase railing. If someone tripped that doesn’t look like it would stop them from taking a tumble or give them anything firm to grasp onto. The designs for these are really getting much better, and some of them are very elaborate. The practical issues are both portability and finding a place that you can live on, or a place that lets you live in your Tiny Home on your own land … which ought to be one’s own business as far as I can see. Nice work.

Bruce: I found out simply by chance the other day that Cook County (Grand Marais), Minnesota, is very tiny house friendly. They are perfectly fine with anyone that wants to live in their tiny house on wheels full-time. They only ask that you take your wheels off once you have your house in position on your land, and that you support it beneath with some type of blocks or simple foundation (like a couple of cement pilings, if I am understand it correctly). A great perk is that Grand Marais, Minnesota, was recently listed as the top 10 “Coolest Small Towns in the USA”! They really are ahead of their time in Grand Marais.

The Roberts Resorts website states that it’s a 55+ community. Do you know if they are going to have a separate area for those below that age?

Vraiment une très belle cabane à pêche; confortable et facile à transporter quatre saisons. L’hiver, la pêche sur glace et l’été, la pêche dans les rivières et lacs; l’automne, la chasse. Que demandez plus??

I wonder how it is that we see tiny houses being used as hotels legally? But it’s still difficult to get a permit for them as a home!!! Double standard much?
