Some people are cheap.
The comparisons are not tiny house to a Motel 6 room. It’s tiny compared to renting a home. A real, actual house. Stacking rooms on top of each other is cheap square footage and the cost reflects that. Try renting a houseboat or a ski chalet and it’s a whole other world. Don’t compare apples to oranges. Also, $300 is a lot? You get what you pay for.
I think people who RV might transition well into this.
But, if you’re like my husband and I and refuse to camp – never, ever – then this could be a cute weekend house solution. We built a “father in law” house for my dad and went with a stick built 612 sq ft place. It seems so small! Less than 100? MY closet is bigger. I know the point is to scale back but we have 2 teenage boys and, for right now, the 4 bathrooms in my house are necessary.
We’re not ready now but 5 years? Yeah. Or maybe build one for the grandkids! One day…

Charging $285/night for these is too much. Yes, they are adorable, but you pay that much for a large suite at a fancy hotel in some cities. With room service!
